Maybe true peace will only occur when both those who distance themselves from religion/tribe, and those who belong to and do not wish to leave a religion/tribe, acknowledge their own culpability in our human history of violence and humbly ask forgiveness of the "other"; when we always are aware of our own propensity for hate and admit the ease with which we can slip into hurtful actions towards the "other"; when we begin instead to truly care for the stranger within our gates without trying to convert or control or take advantage of them; when we see the leaders and proponents of any religion/tribe/camp able to do this ( I humbly include myself in the distancers' camp), we may see the first faint dawning of peace.
