It is still so mild that the grass is green and berries remain on bushes.

Oooh... what a thought. I would love earrings of cotoneaster berries, if only they would hold up! :)
I like that thought, too - the shape of the cotoneasters is more beautiful, but I'd choose the intense purple color of beautyberry.
Your birds must be slackers, Kati! Our Mockingbirds are so crazy about berries that they might chase us down the street, trying to taste our jewelry.

I don't see a lot of beautyberry grown here, Annie, although it would probably be perfectly hardy. Kim, I've been toying with the idea of making earrings with beads that look like the berries, but maybe I shouldn't wear them out west or wherever Mockingbirds might be found!
