These plants are just as foreign looking to me, even though Austin's in zone 8... they're all happy with acid soil and ours is alkaline.

This is the City of Vancouver, right? Not the Island?? [Just trying to figure out if Bouchard Gardens are nearby.]

Right, this is the City of Vancouver, just snippets of the private gardens, plantings done by the city along the streetscape, and in the park along the North Arm of the Fraser River. You're right, Bouchard Gardens are on Vancouver Island.
