Kim about the lemony ants made me determined to find the reference to these ants I had encountered once before.
Here it is, posted by Bev over at
Burning Silo. Class: Insecta; Order: Hymenoptera; Superfamily: Vespoidea; Family: Formicidae; Common name: Ants; Genus: Acanthomyops, has perhaps nine species that are found in mid- to eastern North America. The most commonly mentioned species were
A. claviger and
A. interjectus.Other lemony things in my garden: citronella geranium, lemon verbena, lemon balm, monarda, and a couple of lemon scented thymes.
