The winter sun lies low in the sky, casting long shadows across the snow, even at midday, in this part of the world. The days are short and getting shorter still. Winter solstice is approaching. After Dec 21 or 22, or so, we can expect the days to get longer again.

Although it is cold, as the sun swings around to the west, low in the sky, the light appears warm, almost orange and sunsets have been spectacular.

As Christmas approaches, I have dug out some of my traditional music and played some of that stuff today on the piano: folk songs, Jean Sibelius, Oscar Merikanto, Leevi Madetoja, Otto Kotilainen, P.J.Hannikainen, Martti Turunen, etc. When I play, I do sing, but I have to imagine what it might sound like if someone who can actually sing were singing along...
